Allergies
EXERCISE PROGRAM
You should stay physically active even when you suffer from allergic rhinitis. However, you should consider limiting or eliminating swimming as chlorinated water could worsen symptoms[6].
HOLISTIC NUTRITION
Avoid foods that trigger allergies. Eat fewer foods and additives that are likely to cause inflammation and allergic reactions, such as saturated fats (meats and dairy products), refined foods, eggs, citrus, bananas, chocolate, peanuts, shellfish, foods that contain food coloring, preservatives, caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, and sugar.
Ensure the diet is rich with antioxidants as they were reported to have a protective effect[7]. Eat plenty of fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and seeds. A Mediterranean diet, which is rich in fruits, vegetables, and nuts can have a protective effect[8]. Ensure plenty of filtered water and fresh, organic vegetable juices are used daily.
You may consider adding probiotic-containing products (such yogurt or kefir) into the diet. A number of studies demonstrated that probiotics may have a beneficial effect on allergic rhinitis by reducing symptom severity and medication use[9].
SUPPLEMENTS
PROPOLIS
Propolis may be effective in the relief of symptoms of allergic rhinitis through the inhibition of histamine release[10].
SPIRULINA
Spirulina Arthrospira platensis, a blue-green algae, is produced and commercialized as a dietary supplement, and has been shown to be clinically effective with allergic rhinitis[11].
VITAMIN E
Vitamin E supplementation may be beneficial in the case of seasonal allergic rhinitis as a combination of vitamin E (800 milligrams per days) with regular treatment increased its efficacy[12].
BOTANICALS
Plants high in flavonoids like quercetin, such as ginkgo Ginkgo biloba (L.), St. John's wort Hypericum perforatum (L.), elder Sambucus canadensis (L.), turmeric Curcuma longa (L.), rose hips Rosa canina (L.), and bilberry Vaccinium myrtillus (L.), are especially useful because they reduce production of histamines and strengthen connective tissue.
GUDUCHI
Guduchi Tinospora cordifolia (Thunb.) is a herb used in used in Ayurvedic and Jamu herbal medicines.Tinospora cordifolia was reported to be very effective for management of allergic rhinitis. In a group that received a T. cordifolia extract, 83% of participants reported relief from sneezing, 69% of participants reported relief from nasal discharge, 61% of participants reported relief from nasal obstruction, and 71% of participants reported relief from nasal pruritus[13].
NETTLE
Nettle Urtica urens (L.) is recommended as it affects key receptors and enzymes associated with allergic rhinitis[14]. Benefits of the use of this herb were demonstrated by a small-scale, double-blind, placebo-control trial[15].
Try a nettle U. urens infusion: Two cups per day.
SHISO
Shiso Perilla frutescens (L.) is a popular Asian culinary herb (spice). It contains high levels of rosmarinic acid and the flavonoid luteolion, which have anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic actions. Recently, extracts of P. frutescens enriched with rosmarinic acid have undergone study for use with allergic rhinitis. A double blind, placebo-controlled trial demonstrated that extracts help with itchy nose, watery eyes, itchy eyes, and other symptoms[16].

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can be effective[18]. The herbs used in TCM herbal formulas possess anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory, or immune-modulation activity. TCM is often used concurrently with acupuncture, resulting in greater efficacy[19].
In specific, several studies have demonstrated that the TCM herbal formulation called Biminne® has beneficial effects on allergic rhinitis[20] (this formulation includes: Chinese skullcap Scutellaria baicalensis (Georgi), ginkgo G. biloba, horny goat weed Epimedium sagittatum (Siebold & Zucc.)
